Stop Climate Chaos Scotland (SCCS) is looking for an experienced campaigner to work closely with the SCCS Coalition Manager, Climate Fringe Coordinator, Policy Advisor and coalition members to deliver the campaigns agreed in our new public engagement strategy at this is a crucial time to show strong public support for climate policies and drive action by decision makers.
Key priorities:
- Coordinate and help to deliver the campaigns agreed in the public engagement strategy workplan, working collaboratively and inclusively with coalition members
- Facilitate the SCCS Public Engagement working group, helping to ensure it delivers its aims and workplan
- Organise events such as rallies, lobbies, supporter training, and talks both in person and online
- Draft campaigns, social media and website content in line with agreed coalition positions and messaging
- Work with the Climate Fringe Coordinator to maximise reach through SCCS social media channels and digital comms
- Work with media colleagues at member organisations to draft press releases, opinion pieces and other media content
- Ensure a close connection between SCCS advocacy and campaigns work
- Liaise with our sister organisations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland on campaigns where appropriate
- Other relevant campaign related work as identified by the Coalition Manager
This post would suit someone who is committed to climate justice, naturally very well-organised, a good communicator who is able to demonstrate initiative and creativity, and enjoy the challenge of helping turn our policy work into campaigns that our diverse membership and their audiences can support.
You will have regular contact with coalition members from a broad range of civil society organisations. The Campaign Coordinator will report to the Coalition Manager and work closely with our Climate Fringe Coordinator and Policy Advisor.
Knowledge & experience:
Essential
- Demonstrable commitment to action on climate change and climate justice
- Coordinating and/or delivering creative environmental or social justice campaigns
- Working collaboratively with partners to deliver a project or campaign
- Excellent communication skills, suitable for different audiences and purposes
- Writing website, newsletter content and social media content
- Building and maintaining effective contacts and relationships
- Experience of organising and facilitating meetings and events
- Excellent IT skills
- A good understanding of the climate movement and political structures/processes in Scotland
- Ability to prioritise and organise a busy workload
Desirable
- Managing social media accounts, generating content and delivering campaigns via social media (SCCS currently uses Twitter and LinkedIn)
- Experience of working with the media
- Graphic design skills
- Using data and analytics to improve reach and engagement of digital comms
Qualifications
The competencies and experience of the successful candidate will be more important than formal academic qualifications.
Terms and conditions
Salary: £30,000 pro rata
Location: Primarily from home, with some office working in central Edinburgh. In person meetings or events may take place in other parts of Scotland (for which travel expenses will be paid)
Line manager: Stop Climate Chaos Scotland Coalition Manager
Hours: 6 month fixed term role, working 2 days ( 15 hours) per week. Given the nature of the work, the post holder may be expected to work the occasional evening or weekend, for which time off in lieu will be granted.
Terms and conditions of employment: This position is directly employed by Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, who use the terms and conditions in the employee handbook of Friends of the Earth Scotland.
Holiday: 28 days annual leave plus 11 days statutory holidays (pro rata).
Pension: Stop Climate Chaos Scotland operates a pension plan with NEST and our pension benefits exceed the statutory minimum.
