Your suggestions for climate new year’s resolutions in 2024

We launched our new year’s climate resolutions campaign at the COP28 Global Day of Action on 9th December in Edinburgh, and have gathered hundreds of suggestions from people across Scotland for new year’s climate resolutions for party leaders to commit to.

The science (from unbiased scientists) is very clear. We cannot afford to keep using unsustainable energy sources, such as crude oil. We need to find a way to make green energy more efficient and be able to store it better. If we do this it will be better for everyone. Obviously nothing is 100% but why risk the entire world to gain an extra few pounds that you'd get back later anyway??!

I have 2 children and I want a world built on sustainable economy

Alex

For our children and our children"s children we need action now.

John

Inaction, delay, backtracking and the like brings us no closer to negating only some of the damage we are doing to the planet - and ourselves. Waiting will not help us. Pandering to companies and money will not make it better. Forever growing and being bigger is not for the best. We are killing ourselves and everything on Earth.

Lucy

Please take urgent and far-reaching and fair action before it's too late. Know that you have the support of the vast majority of people who can see for themselves that the climate is breaking down, that our earth's support systems are collapsing, that people and animals and insects and plants and all other living and non-living things on this earth are in grave danger. It now costs more to trash the earth than it does to save it, it's what we all want, so what's stopping you? Seriously!?

Julie

As someone who has lived in Scotland most of her life, I want to be able to have children and bring them up with the same opportunities that I have had. I fear for the sort of unequal future we are heading towards, with devastating climate impacts from global heating; and loss of biodiversity and natural solutions; with rich people getting richer and everyone else struggling.

Sarah

Please do all you can to support phasing out fossil fuels and endorse the fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty for a global exit plan from fossil fuels. Unless we take really urgent and brave action here in Scotland to begin a phase out of oil, gas and coal, we won't move fast enough to tackle the climate emergency.

Jane

With proper consideration to a fully thought out phased change
