Your suggestions for climate new year’s resolutions in 2024
We launched our new year’s climate resolutions campaign at the COP28 Global Day of Action on 9th December in Edinburgh, and have gathered hundreds of suggestions from people across Scotland for new year’s climate resolutions for party leaders to commit to.
The time to take action is now. The climate emergency and interrelated nature emergency are existential threats which require urgent action. As our elected representatives, we depend on you to take action. We need to move beyond warm words and empty rhetoric and take action. The one thing you need to do in relation to this plea, is to take action.
Paul
Climate change is my greatest concern and I believe that it should be yours too! Everything that we all do, especially those in leadership positions, must not damage the environment nor make climate change worse. On the contrary, our actions must be targeted towards improving both and to show leadership in this vital area.
Matthew
As a grandmother I want a future for my grandchildren. Without action on the climate crisis this is increasingly unlikely. I am ashamed of what my generation has done to this planet and the continuing selfishness or head-in-the-sand behaviour of many. I am fed up of politicians cutting back on their promises on climate action in order to win the votes of the above-mentioned selfish individuals. The same politicians keep telling us, the public, that we're not doing enough when what we need is world-wide action that only governments can achieve in a timely manner.
Heather
Whilst I understand the need to adopt vote-catching policies, I beg you all to make climate change a top priority. I have 2 grandchildren, I want to leave them with a world that is worth saving.
Susan
This year is the right time for Scotland to lead the way on pollution. We should not have to clean up the mess made by businesses: Make polluters pay!
Penelope
The world needs your leadership and action.
Pauline
Your policies are all in vain unless you take the actions below to address climate change. The COVID pandemic proved that massive change can be made in a very short period of time. Please take this action to save our future generations from the horrors that would ensue if you ignore it.
Fiona
Please for the sake of all our futures put climate action as a major top priority - commensurate with the scale of the climate crisis. No new oil and gas and a managed wind down of North Sea oil and gas, agreed with trade unions as part of a Just Transition is essential. As is funding the public sector to lead by example. The children of the world need us to protect the planet for the future. Please act as if all our lives depend upon it...because they do.
