Scotland’s climate coalition, Stop Climate Chaos Scotland (SCCS), has launched its new strategic framework for 2025-2027, outlining the vision, goals, and role of the coalition in the build up to the Scottish elections and in the first months of the new government.

Developed in collaboration with the 70+ coalition members, the strategic framework reflects the challenges of the current political and social context, and set out the principles behind SCCS’s work.

The key elements of the new strategic framework are:

  • Under-pinning our continued political influence with a stronger focus on public engagement to build and demonstrate public support for action
  • Greater recognition of SCCS’s convening role, creating more opportunities to bring diverse stakeholders together while connecting climate action more strongly with other social inequalities and injustices
  • Continuing to expand our membership to be more diverse and active, helping us to reach different and larger audiences through our members, while building our collective influence
  • Renewed focus on Scotland’s highest emitting sectors – buildings, transport, agriculture and land use – as well as securing a faster transition from fossil fuels.
  • Recognising the deep inequalities that sit at the heart of the climate crisis, a strengthened focus on embedding fairness across our work
  • Added emphasis on messaging and demands about adaptation in our work

Mike Robinson, Chair of SCCS, said

“We are delighted to be launching our new strategic framework, which aims to give clarity to our members, stakeholders and supporters about our areas of focus over the next 3 years – the middle of the ‘decade of delivery’, that hasn’t yet materialised.”

“The Scottish elections in 2026 are a critical moment to work towards, and our diverse and growing coalition has an important role to play to respond to build and demonstrate public support for climate action and ensure all parties feel pressure to act.”

“Although we recognise this is a challenging global political context, with increasingly devastating climate impacts both in Scotland and around the world, SCCS and our members are committed to doing as much as we can to promote the positive impacts climate action will bring and the opportunities to bring real benefits to people’s lives through warmer homes, cleaner air, and healthy and sustainable food.”
