Show your candidates that people in Scotland are united for climate action

Polling consistently shows that people in the Scotland care about the climate and nature, and want to see all politicians taking stronger action. The UK general election on 4th July is an important opportunity to remind all candidates and parties of this.

While a lot of climate decisions are made by the Scottish Government, there are 3 key areas where action by the UK Government would deliver cuts to emissions, show international leadership and increase support to those most impacted by the climate crisis:

FAIRNESS: Adopting a progressive position at the annual COP negotiations and paying our fair share to international climate finance, including loss and damage

FINANCE: Raising new funds fairly for climate action and a just transition by making the biggest polluters pay more

FOSSIL FUELS: Preventing any new exploration or development, and to instigate a managed and just wind-down of North Sea oil and gas production

Climate questions to ask your candidates

When speaking to candidates on your doorstep or at hustings, ask them these climate questions to show them you want action, and to see what they would do, if elected, to address the climate crisis and make our communities safer, healthier and fairer:

Attend a climate hustings

Friends of the Earth Scotland and Global Justice Now are working with local groups to organise climate hustings in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow and Stirling. Attending one of these events will be a great opportunity to ask candidates about the climate action they would take, if elected.
